Abstract
At the end
of September 2005, the number of broadband subscribers
across the world rose to 187.7 million with a 8.7%
growth over the previous quarter.
By geographic
region, North America has the most broadband subscribers
with over 71 million followed by Europe 58 million,
Americas 56 million and Middle -East Africa with 1.9
million.
In Asia-Pacific
region, the rapidly growing demand for broadband Internet
services is relay to the impressive expansion of China
broadband market thanks to its economic growth. In
addition, a stronger telecommunications industry in
China is rapidly deploying broadband services, thereby
encouraging the telco industry to respond by rolling
out DSL services.
In Europe,
by contrast, there is a slow down in the broadband
take up trend. This caused by problem of the local
loop unbundling and approach of saturation level in
the most advanced countries in the region on the other
hand.
The leading broadband market
in Europe is Germany, with 9.4 million broadband subscribers.
