Abstract
The Russian
market for broadband access is estimated to be over
1 million by the end of 2005. The biggest chunk (51
percent) of the market is concentrated in Moscow,
although over some 500 Service providers operate in
over 200 Russian cities. The broadband market is extremely
fragmented and the top five providers’ market
share is less than 20 percent.
According to our estimates,
in 2015 the number of broadband subscribers will rise
to over 59 million with a CAGR of 45 percent.
The main access technologies
are cable broadband and xDSL but there is a growing
need for other access technologies such as FWA solutions
in Russia, especially as an effective means of resolving
the "last mile" issue. The wireless network
improves connection quality in numerous locations
throughout Russian provinces where network resources
are exhausted or too expensive.
